Sometimes when an installation of eMagStudio has become corrupted, or when a program update fails, the need can arise to do a completely clean installation of eMagStudio to ensure that all program files are updated an correctly placed. Below is the procedure for performing a completely clean install of eMagStudio.

  1. Uninstall your current installation of eMagStudio using the uninstall shortcut which was created when eMagStudio was originally installed
  2. Ensure that all program files are deleted:
    • On Windows
      1. Open the Start menu and select "My Computer"
      2. Open your primary system harddrive (usually C: on most computers)
      3. Browse to the "Program Files" (or "Program Files (x86)" on 64-bit Windows) folder
      4. Delete the "eMagStudio" folder inside this folder, if it exists (you will need administrative rights to do so)
    • On Mac
      1. In Finder, click "Go" in the main menu
      2. Select "Applications"
      3. Delete the eMagStudio folder inside the Applications folder, if it exists
  3. Remove key application data
    • On Windows
      • Windows XP
        1. Open the Start menu
        2. Select Run...
        3. Type in "%APPDATA%eMagStudio" (without the quotes) and press Enter
        4. In the Explorer window that opens, copy the folders: "config", "css", "languages" and "readerStyles" into another safe location for backup
        5. Delete the folders: "config", "css", "languages" and "readerStyles"
      • Windows Vista / Windows 7
        1. Open the Start menu
        2. In the search field, type in "%APPDATA%eMagStudio" (without the quotes) and press Enter
        3. In the Explorer window that opens, copy the folders: "config", "css", "languages" and "readerStyles" into another safe location for backup
        4. Delete the folders: "config", "css", "languages" and "readerStyles"
    • On Mac
      1. In finder, press "Go"
      2. Select "Go to Folder..."
      3. Type in "~/Library/Application Support/eMagStudio/" (Without the quotes) 
      4. Press Go
      5. In the Finder window that opens, copy the folders: "config", "css", "languages" and "readerStyles" into another safe location for backup
      6. Delete the folders: "config", "css", "languages" and "readerStyles"
  4. Open http://portal.emagstudio.com and download the latest version of eMagStudio
  5. Install the version you just downloaded
  6. Look in your backup copies of "languages" and "readerStyles" folder. If you had any custom skins or customized languages, they should now be copied back into the relevant folders (as described above to ensure they are available in your new installation)
  7. Start eMagStudio, your installation should now be completely updated
